About
Growing up as a third-culture kid, I've always wondered: where do you call home when you're a mix of different places?
My art is really just my way of trying to figure that out. The digital worlds I create mix East Asian and Western aesthetics to create a visual space where these influences can coexist.
What I've realized, especially from talking to people with similar backgrounds, is that belonging isn't really about a physical place on a map. It's more of a feeling you find. You can discover it in a digital space, in a shared story, or just in a piece of art that really connects with you.
So my work is always changing as I keep exploring what that feeling of connection can be, especially now with technology and AI moving so fast.
A graduate of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, Eri Harigai is a Tokyo-based new media artist who blends East Asian and Western aesthetics in her work. Inspired by her cross-cultural background, she explores shifting ideas of home and connection through an artistic practice spanning both physical environments and immersive virtual worlds.
She brings over a decade of experience in large-scale live visuals for television and concerts to an artistic practice that now ranges from award-winning projection mappings to intricate digital sculptures. Her work has been seen on a global stage, including light art at the EXPO 2025 World Expo in Osaka, on the facades of European cathedrals, and on the iconic billboards of Times Square.
